We have recently discovered a fantastic website which you can now use at home too! It’s called Oxford Owl (see the link below). It provides a great opportunity to read, or listen to, books online. There are also lots of fun activities linked to the different stories. We really hope you enjoy using the website as much as we have.
The Year Team
As we have been rewriting the story of Alice in Wonderland we decided to have our very own tea party. We made crowns, placemats, decorated cupcakes and played party games. We also had a very special guest – the Mad Hatter himself! A great day was had by all.

Year 1 have had a great time at Sports Day today. We all chose a country to represent, just like in the Olympics! 1AB were Japanese Samurai’s – complete with warrior headbands and 1KP chose Mexico and they made their own flags and even did a Mexican wave. 1LS chose New Zealand and we designed our own Maori tattoos and did a performance of the Haka! We hope you enjoyed cheering us all on.

This week we were lucky enough to have a visit from a local farmer. He brought a wide range of animals such as; sheep, goats, a pony, donkey, alpacas, pig, rabbits, guinea pigs, tortoise, duckling, hen and a cockerel!
Ian the farmer answered all of our questions and showed us how he cares for his animals. He also showed us some of the garments and fabrics that are made from the wool of both the alpacas and the sheep. We even got to brush the donkey and the pony!
We learnt so much during his visit and we are using the information we gathered in our writing this week. We will also be writing a thank you letter to Ian as we enjoyed it so much!

Year 1 Farm Visit! by Slidely Slideshow
This week have been retelling the story of Billy’s Bucket. We worked in groups to rehearse and we pretended we were on CBeebies Bedtime Stories! We focused on using clear voices, expression, actions, props and working well as a team. We are hoping to share our story videos with the children in Reception and Nursery. On Monday we are visiting The Deep in Hull. We will leave school at 9am prompt, so make sure you arrive to school on time, for 8:45am. You must wear your school uniform. Please provide a packed lunch with a drink. We will be returning to school at the later time of 4:30pm. Please ensure there is somebody at school to pick your child up for that time. If you have not yet paid the £10, it needs to be handed in by Monday morning. After the trip we will upload lots of photos of our exciting day!
The Year 1 Team.
Today we learnt all about the different jobs within our school and our local area. We wrote questions (using question marks!) for key members of staff, and even got the chance to interview them in the afternoon. We used role play to experience different job roles and take on responsibilities. We discussed how employers hire new members of staff and then used ‘because’ to give reasons for why we would be a good person to employ for different job roles. We have had a great day learning about the different jobs that will be available to us in the future – we hope you enjoy our photos!

We hope you’ve had a fantastic holiday and Christmas. This half term our topic is SPACE. Tell us what you already know about Space or something that you would like to find out. Create your own rhyme or song to help to remember the names and order of the planets in our solar system. You will even get the chance to meet a real astronaut!
Look at the pictures taken from the book ‘Me and You’, based on the traditional tale of ‘Goldilocks’.
- What is happening in the pictures shown?
- How do you think the characters are feeling? Explain why they are feeling that way.
- Why is baby bear messing about?
- Why do you think Goldilocks goes into their house? Give reasons.
Next week we will be reading some of the different Mr Men stories and comparing the characters. Which Mr Men or Little Miss character you would be similar to? Here is a picture of Little Miss helpful. Which other adjectives could you use to describe her?
